We are looking to recruit an Advanced Technician to join our Engineering team based at our Battersea depot, working a shift pattern of 4 days on and 4 days off, yes that means you will have half of the year to yourself unless you chose to work voluntary overtime to further boost the attractive wages.

Transport UK London Bus operates bus services across London on behalf of TFL, plus rail replacement and event services across the UK. We operate 11% of the London’s bus network, running over 900 modern high-tech vehicles and employing around 3,500 employees across six depots in Central, South and West London. We carry over 150 million customers a year on TfL’s contracted bus network – and are the fastest growing operator in the capital.

About the job

  • Carry out repairs, inspections and maintenance of our public service fleet vehicles.
  • Investigate, diagnose and record modern vehicle mechanical & electronic faults
  • Able to work well using own initiative.
  • Clearly document faults and rectification work conducted in detail with the aid of electronic tablets.
  • Confidently use modern technical computer systems of fleet management
  • Able to read and interpret instructions and service manuals.
  • Have a duty of care for the health and safety of yourself and your colleagues at all times.
  • Always follow safety instructions in respect of your role and the business as a whole and report unsafe acts of omissions of safety.
  • Undertake any other duties commensurate with the job role.

About you

  • Must have qualifications for maintenance and repair of public service vehicles or heavy goods vehicles to a minimum of NVQ level 3 or City and Guilds or any equivalent international qualification, which must have supportive documentation from a UK awarding body.
  • Must hold current PSV Licence.
  • Must have current recognised qualifications in hybrid awareness and hybrid fault diagnostics.
  • Must hold current IRTEC in service maintenance technician, inspection technician and advanced technician. IRTEC advance technician may be deferred for 12 months but remains condition of appointment to roll.
  • Must have good literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Able to communicate effectively and have the confidence to work collaboratively with colleagues within Engineering and other departments is essential.
  • Must be punctual and meet deadlines and work flexibly when required.
  • Must be prepared to undertake training as seen fit by the Service Manager.
  • Holding a VR03 from the institute of vehicle recovery licence is desirable but not essential.

During the deferred 12 month period candidates who do not hold the IRTEC Advanced Technician will be expected to gain qualification by examination.
