As part of the Transport UK Group, West Midlands Trains delivers around 1,300 train journeys a day, for more than 60 million passengers a year, across our two brands - West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway.


We are committed to delivering a safe and reliable train service, by investing in our fleet of trains, stations and employees. As part of this investment, we are looking to recruit a Head of Drivers on a full-time, permanent basis.


What does the role involve?

  • Providing leadership, vision and drive to the train driving function
  • Accountability for developing a business wide strategy for driver staff and activities - ensuring high safety and quality standards, customer excellence, and efficient operations are met
  • Leading the delivery of train safety, performance, service reliability and customer satisfaction targets
  • Responsibility for the employee relations strategy for the function
  • Being the main point of contact and interface with the Driver Trade Union ASLEF and as Chair of Driver Company Council (DCC) meetings
  • Supporting management teams throughout the network – guiding, developing and challenging - along the way

 

What skills and experience do I need to do the job?

  • Be an experienced and credible leader, with people and leadership skills gained in at a senior level, within the rail sector
  • A track record in leading, developing and motivating diverse teams to deliver results – challenging poor performance, where required
  • Demonstrable experience of improvements in service delivery, safety and performance
  • An in-depth knowledge of railway operations, standards and legislation
  • Being comfortable in a complex and demanding environment, demonstrating a high level of personal resilience
