Role Details

  • Please note that this a Fixed Term Contract/Secondment lasting 12 months
  • 35 hours per week (shift-based, including early starts, late finishes, weekends,) Earliest shift time is from 0440, latest finish is 0010 & the night shift finish is 0600
  • The suitable candidate must be able to get to all shifts by own means of transport.
  • Full training and uniform will be provided, to ensure that you embrace our values and brand as a business.
  • The successful applicant will be required to attend a medical, as all offers are subject to passing a safety critical medical
  • You must be 18 years of age or older to apply for this position

Join Our Team as a Platform Host (Train Dispatcher) at Cambridge. This is a relief post, which means you will be notified of your shifts the Wednesday before.

The Role 

The purpose of this role is to provide a safe environment whilst delivering effective customer service and seeking opportunities to enhance the customer experience at our station.   

Duties may include:

  • Ensure safe and punctual dispatch of trains while adhering to rule books and operational standards, all while maintaining excellent customer service.
  • Create a welcoming environment by providing proactive assistance to customers both on and off trains.
  • Manage the day-to-day operation of the platform, assisting customers with travel needs and ensuring a smooth journey for mobility-impaired passengers.
  • Offer support and assistance to customers during disruptions to minimize inconvenience.
  • Effective communication with Drivers and Conductors is key to the service, while adhering to safety regulations and reporting faults or hazards as necessary.
  • Safety and security of the station and our customers is key. Regular security checks and observations are needed at such a busy and demanding station.

  • Have a friendly, approachable demeanor with the ability to communicate effectively 
  • Are calm under pressure, able to think on their feet, and able to handle various situations  
  • Positive and caring attitude is key, and you must enjoy working as part of a team 
  • Take pride in providing a gold standard in customer service and passionate in ensuring customer safety  
  • Have team spirit and bring your unique self to strengthen our team and foster a positive work environment. 
  • Have familiarity using new technology such as smartphones to assist customers.
