An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Fleet Manager in our Engineering Department managing our Southall and Hayes Depots. The successful applicant will report to the Engineering Director and will deliver a consistently reliable, safe, high quality and punctual service in line with specified targets, contractual obligations and commercial objectives. The role is accountable for all aspects of fleet and facilities management and the health, safety and wellbeing of employees, visitors and contractors.
The Role:
- Have full responsibility for all maintenance activities and servicing requirements for fleet and facilities.
- To ensure that all relevant policies and procedures, namely Engineering, Health and Safety, Security and Environmental processes, are managed and upheld by regular review of compliance, vigilant monitoring, and where shortcomings are identified these must be addressed via the correct channels of escalation through the Engineering Director, Head of Compliance or Head of Facilities
- Ensuring all vehicles are maintained at all times in strict accordance with all Company procedures, contractual & regulatory requirements and agreed budgets/forecasts.
- Ensuring that all external contractors are deemed competent and are managed safely in accordance with all Company procedures and legal requirements.
- Ensure quality control and assurance audits for systems, vehicles, staff and contractors are conducted in accordance with contractual & regulatory requirements, Company policy and industry best practice.
- Ensure all reported defects for vehicles/buildings/plant etc are resolved efficiently and effectively with no effect to the service network, depot safety or vehicle roadworthiness.
- Analyse vehicle reliability and identify problems, ensuring remedial action is taken and is successful, in order that service failure does not exceed the prescribed targets.
- Develop budgets and forecasts for craft pay, materials and relevant depot nominals. Deliver and manage the agreed budgets through regular monitoring and analysis and intervention or reforecasting where agreed with Engineering Director.
- Manage all wet and dry stock to ensure that their use is appropriate and in line with agreed budgets and forecasts and consumption complies with all Company policies and regulatory requirements under the delegation of authority.
- Have responsibility for the generation and authorisation of all purchase orders for materials and services for allocated depots ensuring full compliance with all Company policies, delegation of authority and regulatory requirements at all times.
- Have full people management responsibilities; recruitment of competent staff, management of conduct and disciplinary matters and actively engage with all shop floor personnel to develop and improve skills by continuous monitoring and mentoring. Have a proactive attitude to non- compliance issues. All managed in full accordance with Company policies and employment law requirements.
The Candidate:
- Excellent understanding of the road passenger transport sector, including all relevant legal and external regulations and requirements for the operation of passenger carrying vehicles.
- Excellent working knowledge of all daily site procedures, engineering processes, health and safety Regulations, DVSA standards, and people management practices.
- Flexible approach to working hours – able to attend out-of-hours where required to meet service delivery and business requirements, and to be able to respond quickly to any “on-call” requirements.
- Have a duty of care for the health and safety of yourself and your colleagues at all times, including a duty to report, and where necessary resolve, unsafe acts or omissions to safety. You should always follow all safety instructions in respect of how you undertake your role within the Business.
- Ability to work with Operations, Performance, Engineering and support function colleagues in a collaborative manner.
- Experience of managing, developing, leading and motivating staff to produce high quality work.
- Able to demonstrate a suitable level of engineering competence required to operate at a senior level and make technical, financial or ethical decisions regarding safety, compliance, employee relations or asset management matters.
- PSV Transport Manager CPC desirable but not essential. Training can be given for the successful candidate.
