With the introduction of new trains from 2021, there is no better time to join our Driver Management team as we recruit a new role of Driver Operations Interface Manager.  As part of the wider Abellio Group, West Midlands Trains Ltd, operates as a joint venture - West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway, delivering over 1,300 safe and reliable services per day for more than a 60 million passengers per year.  Since the start of our franchise in 2017 we have been committed to improving our services, investing a whopping £1 billion into the region’s network, £18million in the development of all our workforce.

As our Driver Operations Interface Manager you will act as the deputy to our Head of Drivers and support with the strategic planning of Driver safety and performance improvement.  You will have the responsibility to develop and maintain firm relationships between Operations and Fleet teams, to ensure business objectives are met.  The role will lead improvement in Depot Driver operations at WMT operated depots from a safety and productivity basis, providing clear leadership and responsibility on all operational safety and performance matters for Tyseley and Soho Depots.

You will bring with you the following skills and experience:

  • Experience of managing a large workforce spread geographically across different locations.
  • Knowledge and experience of working with T&C’s covered by legacy collective bargaining arrangements.  Knowledge of driver T&C’s is desirable.
  • In depth knowledge of Rail Operations and the factors that can lead to errors and omissions in a real time operational environment.
  • Knowledge of Human Factors and Non-Technical Skills as they pertain to rail operations.
  • Good communicator, both written and oral. Empathetic approach to evidence gathering.
  • Ability to operate in a complex, fast-paced and challenging environment.
  • Ability to operate in a highly unionised environment.
  • Able to coach performance improvement in the Driver Management teams.
