An exciting opportunity has arisen within Stations for a number of Station Duty Manager roles across the Merseyrail network on a temporary basis.

As part of the Station Management Team a SDM plays a pivotal role in delivering challenging targets and KPI’s.  2020/21 has seen the biggest challenge Merseyrail has ever had to endure, with a significant drop in passengers travelling on our network.  The station management team are vital in driving improvement with customer perception.  This role plays a major part in contributing to Merseyrail’s present, recovery and future growth. 

A Station Duty Manager role sits within the Station Management Team. Should you be successful, you should be able to contribute in meeting challenging targets, KPI’s and the Business Recovery Plan.  Striving to make Merseyrail the transport provider of choice and be a part of building our business to its previous level of success is also an essential part of the role.

The role is very diverse, there is a lot to learn with every hour/day throwing up a new challenge/s.  A Station Duty Manager should be well organised, adaptable enough to deal with reactive situations, think on your feet and having a good standard of education is essential.

The role involves working to a shift pattern but also involves an amount of flexibility to meet business needs.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Understanding how to support, deliver and evidence the delivery of KPI’s and targets.
  • Responsibility for safety and instilling customer confidence.
  • Good communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Ability to undertake concise accident investigations and competently complete all necessary paperwork.
  • Support in the need to recover lost revenue due to the COVID pandemic.
  • Being able to remain calm and focused when under pressure.
  • Ability to deal with confrontation.
  • Have good observational skills and an eye for detail.
  • Day to day responsibility of maintaining standards at all stations.
  • Knowledge of both Station Assistant and Station Retailer roles and responsibilities, with an understanding of the station shift rotations as out of hours rostering is a fundamental part of the role.
  • A proven problem solver.
  • Ability to build relationships and work with key stakeholders both internal and external.
  • Manage key areas of the companies concessionary agreement.
  • Working and making decisions through own initiative but ensure you stay in touch with the wider team.
  • Ensuring all stations are maintained to the highest standard.
  • Being available to support staff and complete return to works when necessary.
  • Adaptability.
  • Take responsibility for being the eyes and ears on the network and when necessary providing feedback to Station Managers.
