An opportunity is now available for an experienced Project Manager to join Merseyrail’s Ticketing and Retail team. The overarching objective for this role is to support delivery of the Future Ticket Programme, ensuring that deadlines and specifications are met. This is a really exciting time to be joining the team and we’re looking for the right person to drive the programme forward.  

This role is for a 12-month fixed term contract with the option to extend to 18 months. We’re looking for an exceptional, organised and motivated Project Manager to deliver a high-profile project within the business.

The role will work with departments across the business as well as with multiple suppliers and stakeholders, so it is essential to have excellent communication skills and the ability to work with and develop positive relationships with people at all levels of seniority. Projects will involve complex systems so the ability to digest, understand and communicate technical information is an advantage. 

Key responsibilities include: 

• Manage projects to scope, time and budget using the project framework, governance and standards.
• Produce project documentation, including business cases and project progress reports, to a consistently high quality.
• Manage suppliers and external consultants, as part of the project delivery and hold them accountable for committed objectives. 
• Define project team roles and responsibilities and resolve conflicts of interest in a professional manner.
• Use professional project management software tools, including Microsoft Project to plan project timescales, milestones, and critical paths.
• Use risk management methodologies and apply risk reduction techniques to minimise potential barriers to project delivery.
• Control the project scope and budget across the Project Management Team and ensure the satisfaction of the end users throughout the project lifecycle. 
• Use change control processes to ensure that deviations to project scope, timescales, or budgets are properly documented and authorised.
• Lead project meetings and maintain accurate and detailed records of all project decisions, issues and outcomes.
• Manage complex internal and external stakeholder relationships and escalate issues to appropriate levels of seniority.
• Manage associated workload and priorities by ensuring that clear objectives and outputs are in place and progress and quality is monitored.

The ideal candidate should have the following skills and experience:

• Proven record of delivering high-level projects to time, scope, and budget, and resolving complex project issues.
• Experience of managing projects simultaneously, in many different business sectors, including those of a technical nature.
• Excellent communication skills, and ability to resolve conflicts in a professional manner.
• Core MS Office skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) at an intermediate level.
• Experience in working with rail ticketing system suppliers and an understanding of Account Based Ticketing would be an advantage.
