An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Merseyrail Finance team as a Temporary Finance Assistant, covering Maternity leave for approx. 12 months.

The role plays a key part in the Merseyrail Finance Team. The role assists the Finance Department in maintaining the integrity of the General Ledger and any associated systems, whilst taking ownership of Accounts Payable and Receivable transactions ensuring prompt and correct payments are made to/from suppliers/customers whilst providing assurance that delegated levels of authority are adhered to. The role is required to liaise with the wider business and assist the Finance Team in ad hoc tasks to support both the Period End and Year End finance processes.

The role will provide support to the wider Finance Team and will be expected to:

  • Process accounts Payable/Receivable invoices from receipt to payment
  • Reply to queries in a timely and professional manner
  • Oversee payment runs
  • Provide data to allow for the efficient raising of invoices where appropriate
  • Deal with high volume of invoices
  • Resolve any escalated or complex issues
  • Assist with the Period End and Year End processes
  • Reconciliations as appropriate
  • Apply internal control procedures as necessary
  • Monitor any supplier disputes and advise Management accordingly
  • Proactively review processes to improve effectiveness and ensure continued development
  • Develop skills and understanding to provide support to the Finance team

The ideal candidate should have prior experience in a similar role, excellent communication skills both written and oral, in addition to experience in using SAP and Microsoft Office packages. The candidate should also be a team player and be able to work to strict deadlines.
