As part of the Transport UK Group, West Midlands Trains delivers around 1,300 train journeys a day, for more than 60 million passengers a year, across our two brands - West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway.


We are committed to delivering a safe and reliable train service, by investing in our fleet of trains, stations and employees. As part of this investment, we are looking to recruit a Head of Control, on a full-time, permanent basis.


What does the role involve?

  • Senior leadership of the operations control team
  • Ensuring service delivery is consistently delivered – liaising with other internal teams, Network Rail and other rail partners
  • Leading the function by engaging your team and providing a clear vision for the future
  • Leading the innovation of technology and ways of working, within the control team
  • Embed a continuous improvement culture throughout the team
  • Leading the annual business planning process for your business area
  • Working closely with industry partners on improvements and enhancements - aiding service delivery
  • Overall responsibility for the delivery of the new control system technology implementation project
  • Bringing passion and enthusiasm to the role and instilling this into the team

 

What skills and experience do I need to do the job?

  • Previous senior leadership experience in a safety critical industry
  • Experience of control functions/teams
  • Solid Microsoft Office applications experience
  • Influencing abilities – both within the business and also with external stakeholders
  • High levels of resilience – being able to manage difficult and time critical situations
  • Flexibility – you will split your time between our Birmingham City Centre offices, Rugby control centre and Birmingham signalling centre
  • Be an excellent communicator – able to flex your style accordingly
